Privacy policy and security

Online privacy and security is very important to Compassion in World Farming.

Personal information

When you visit www.ciwf.com and other Compassion in World Farming websites, and are asked for personal information, you are sharing that information with Compassion in World Farming alone unless stated otherwise. Compassion in World Farming is an international organization, and your personal information may be shared across national borders where we believe such sharing will improve our service to you, and only for the purposes for which you provided the information. Compassion in World Farming will not disclose any of your personally identifiable information, except when we have your permission or under special circumstances, such as when we believe in good faith that the law requires it.

Protection of children

Compassion in World Farming is committed to protecting the privacy and safety of children. Although we are not responsible for determining the age of our users, our websites are primarily designed and intended for use by people aged 16 and over. If you are younger than this, you should review the terms of this privacy policy with your parent or guardian to make sure you both understand them. No information should be submitted to this website by children without prior parental consent. All applicable laws are followed with respect to data collection from children. No sharing of data collected from children with any third parties is permitted at any time under any circumstances. NB: Parents should be aware that owing to the nature of our work, images posted on Compassion in World Farming websites may be considered unsuitable for children under the age of 13 (e.g the carefully considered use of photographs of dead, dying or otherwise suffering animals).

Email

If you have subscribed to our e-newsletter we will not sell or rent this information to anyone. You will be able to unsubscribe by clicking the link we include in every email or by contacting us on supporters@ciwf.org.

What do we do with your personal information?

If you provide us with personal information your details are stored securely and used only for the purpose for which you have signed up. For instance, you provide your contact details if you send a lobbying e-Card and these details are held by us and forwarded to the named recipient only. We do not pass your details to any other organisations without your express consent (except if you use our secure financial pages - in which case they are passed to our financial partner, RSM, for payment processing and validation purposes only - see below for further details). The information you give helps us to know what appeals and actions are most effective and allows us to plan future campaigns to promote farm animal welfare.

Who else can access your personal information?

If you use our secure financial pages to donate online, you are going through to the website of our reputable financial partner company, RSM. RSM handles all the secure financial transactions on the Compassion in World Farming website. The information you provide as part of any online financial transaction (such as your credit card number and contact information) is collected only so that the transaction can take place.

Information security

When you provide personal information we take steps to ensure that your information is treated securely. While we strive to protect your personal information, Compassion in World Farming cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us, and you therefore do this at your own risk. Once we receive your transmission, we make our best effort to ensure its security on our systems. By working with RSM we are ensuring that we are using the best security technology with regards to collection and transmission of personal financial data.
