August 14, 2019 - Yesterday, food service giant Aramark has extended its US and Canadian commitment to meaningfully improve the lives of chickens to its entire European supply chain! Aramark has pledged that its European suppliers will meet the requirements of the European Chicken Commitment for all of their fresh, frozen, and processed products by 2026.

Aramark’s global move this week is the latest critical piece in the company’s animal welfare puzzle. Notably, Aramark was one of the first companies to commit to better chicken in the US back in 2016, helping to set the stage for the wave of commitments that have followed in the years since.

Aramark has a long-standing commitment to responsible sourcing in a way that minimizes the impact on people, animals, and the environment. As part of their Animal Welfare Policy published in February 2017, they announced their commitment to source 100% cage-free eggs (both shell and liquid) globally by 2025.

Aramark’s latest commitment to do better for birds in Europe means that as of now, six of the seven founding members of the Global Coalition for Animal Welfare (GCAW), the world’s first food industry-led initiative aimed at advancing animal welfare globally, have now signed on to the Better Chicken Commitment. Improving welfare for chickens raised for meat is one of the coalition’s key priorities moving forward. Find out more about GCAW here.

Aramark follow KFC and Compass Group in making moves for chickens in Europe over the past month.

We commend Aramark for extending their commitment to better chicken and look forward to working together as they transform their supply chain and improve the lives of birds on both sides of the pond.
