ChickenTrack 2024 captures the public disclosure of X companies that reported progress towards the Better Chicken Commitment (BCC). Mary’s Chicken and Earth Animal are counted twice in performance tracking to include multiple product lines, each with separate targets for BCC implementation.
For company progress to be included in ChickenTrack, a company must meet the following conditions:

Information must be publicly available on a company’s website or in other documents including, but not limited to, the company’s animal welfare policy, an ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance)/ CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) progress report, or press release.
In alignment with the Better Chicken Commitment, timelines must be implemented for full completion of the BCC at a minimum. Companies may also set target dates for individual tenets of the BCC through development of a roadmap to ensure BCC implementation is being met.
Only information published within two years of our reporting deadline is considered accurate and up to date. This year, we included companies based on progress reported by April 31st, 2025 following a revision of the overall report.

To avoid confusion, progress towards the BCC should be published as clearly as possible. Vague language and omission of tenets in annual reporting may be viewed as an incomplete, weakened, or removed commitment and may be removed from ChickenTrack reporting.**

The company information shown in the above charts was compiled in February 2025, with a revision to view updated company performance in May, 2025. In capturing this data, we made several assumptions, including:

Because companies were asked to report in terms of the volume of chicken purchased, we have assumed, unless otherwise specified, that this is the metric used.
When a company reports that a percentage of its chicken supply is certified to G.A.P.'s 5-Step® plan, but the company is not explicit about commitment timelines and/or progress figures for each component of the BCC, we made the following assumptions:
1. Because G.A.P. certification (at all steps) requires suppliers to meet the BCC standards for stocking density, lighting, litter, and enrichments, we have assumed that the proportion of a company’s chicken supply that is G.A.P. certified meets these standards even if the company does not disclose separate figures for these components.
2. After G.A.P.'s recent decision to adopt approved slower growing breeds in all steps of its 5-Step® plan by 2029, we have decided to include some companies reporting towards the original Version 1 of the BCC that fully source G.A.P. chicken. CIWF will work to engage and further clarify the decision with these companies to incorporate slower-growing breeds in their supply chains.
3. If a company makes no mention of breed progress, we have marked their respective progress as 0%. Until 2029, G.A.P. certification is currently not a guarantee of compliance with the breed component across all step levels.
For companies with subsidiaries: Outreach was performed to confirm which, if any, applied to BCC reporting information of the parent company. If we were not confident that a subsidiary was included, it was considered as “Not reporting”. Following request, some subsidiaries were left out of this reporting table.

As companies continue to make progress towards the BCC, we encourage companies to provide clarity on the metric used to measure progress, timelines for each component, product types covered by the commitment, and the third-party auditor or certification program employed.
