Raw: the true cost of factory farming
Raw is a new international campaign dedicated to kick-starting a food and farming revolution.
Significant progress made
Compassion in World Farming has a vision of a world where cruel factory farming has ended and all farm animals are treated with compassion and respect. Over the last forty years, we have achieved significant positive change for farm animals. We are proud that our hard work has improved the lives of hundreds of millions of farm animals.
But we are far from satisfied
Despite the progress we are making, we have to face the stark truth that our planet faces a food and farming crisis. As a system of food production, factory farming is failing. It is not just inhumane – it’s dangerous, unfair and dirty, with impacts ranging from climate change to biodiversity loss and disease to food insecurity.
Our new way of thinking
While Compassion will continue to prevent suffering and make huge improvements to farming standards, we believe that the animal welfare movement is less likely to win the arguments against factory farming on its own. Experience tells us that short term economic interests, the perils of a warming planet and the need to feed a growing global population can often drown out concerns about animal welfare.
In 2012 we aimed to improve recognition of the numerous detrimental effects of factory farming.
Kickstarting a food and farming revolution
Through Raw, we are exposing the true cost of factory farming – for animals, for people, for the planet – and building a movement for positive practical food and farming solutions.
We are encouraging a wider range of people and other powerful organizations to take action – to recognize the impacts of factory farming on us and the planet, as well as animals.
Join us, and together, let’s kick-start a food and farming revolution.
